| Shop Girl, by Steve Martin review by Carl K | ||
| Shop girl is not at
all what I thought it would be. I thought it would be funny as it
is written by one of the very best comedians in my opinion. I
found early on in the read that it's not funny. It's a story of a
girl with problems in her life, and of how she interacts with other
people around her. It's really a brutally honest image of what the
author feels is the normal goings on in the heads of men and women in
the dating scene. How we use others, and are used by others in our
quest for companionship. Our quest to find someone to love us, and
in return, be loved by us.
If I were to take the book at face value, I would be truly saddened by the state of things in the world. It's a rather depressing read that leaves me wondering if people are truly as shallow as this book portrays most of the cast. Only the one with terrible manic depressive syndrome has any true honesty. She's at least honest with herself. |
