While loading the cannons in battle, you might find that the barrel that spits out the pieces will move on your board. The way it moves depends on the way the ship is turning. It’s called centrifugal force. Much like when you’re in a car and a left turn makes everything in the car get pushed to the right, when the captain makes a left turn your barrel will be pushed to the right. Also, the whirlpools on the battle board will cause the barrel to be forced against the left side of the board.
Powder monkey says-- There is a way to prevent this! By using either the escape key or the pause key, you can start lazing about and the barrel will not move.* A good gunner will keep an eye on the captain’s planned moves, and if they notice that a number of left or right turns are coming up, they'll hit the escape key until the ship has finished turning so that the barrel does not impede the path of the loop. One turn by itself won't make the barrel run up against a wall (if the barrel's still in the middle) but two or more certainly will. *With one exception... If you happen to be on a ship where the captain allows you to find a board while on the open seas and you hit the pause button to laze about, when the ship does get into a battle the barrel will roll about when the captain turns. You must, after getting into battle, return to the board and then laze about again for the trick to work.
