What's New Archive
A repository for previous "What's New" bulletins from the main
page
Last updated: 2005 04 02.
Updated by Jess Knoch.
8.06.03: Finally! The Beta-Test Competition has been announced! See this
informative page for details. And yes, reviews are also in the
works. I've been busy with some beta-testing of my own.
3.26.03: Posted publicly at last: an IF
Comp Primer, designed mostly for first-time entrants to the Annual
Interactive Fiction Competition, held around September each year.
Contains ten tips for authors about what to include or not to
include. It has been added to the Writings.
3.21.03: Don't you just love spring? New on the site: added all
the 2002 Comp games to the index of reviews,
marked with (comp02). If an updated version is ever reviewed,
we'll be sure to mention that fact. Also, SPAG #32 is out, with a
review by Jess. Read
it online here. And finally, posted the review
of Words of Power to this site. And finally finally, added a "What's
New" Archive section to tidy up the front page. Next on
my list of things to do: straighten out the Links page. Oh, and
maybe write some reviews.
3.12.2003: Ah, new content on the site at last! We have a review
of Pentari:First Light [DEMO Version] for perusal. Spring Comps
should keep us busy in the next few weeks! Also, the review
of Dutch Dapper IV is now posted to the page of reviews.
2.21.2003: My review of Words of Power, by Stark Springs, is posted
at the IF-Review site. Read
it here. Soon to be posted on this site.
1.31.2003: I wrote a review of Dutch Dapper IV for the IF-Review
site. Read
it here. Soon to be posted on this site.
1.17.2003: Finalized the new scoring system
(the WABE system) and will probably use it until at least this year's IF
Comp. That seems to be the big test for a scoring system!
Feel free to send me
comments about the system.
1.17.2003: Whew, holidays are over and done with. Now we can
get back into writing reviews. I've actually got a lot of
different things in the works, but it will take time for them to reach
this website. In the meantime, I have updated my "Beginner's
Guide to IF" page with some links and corrections. Enjoy!
12.22.2002: Okay, so just mentioning the new-to-IF page I was working on
inspired me to finish it up. So I turn it over to the world for
viewing and comments.
12.22.2002: Working on a page for computer-literate people who are
new to IF. Everything slows down around the holidays,
though. Just trust me that lots of things are going on behind
the scenes.
11.30.2002: Added an entertaining Review
of Comp02 Reviews, by Mike Sousa (co-author of the second-place
finisher, Till Death Makes a Monk-fish Out of Me!).
11.26.2002: Made some changes to the new
scoring system, including a catchy acronym: FLAME. Later:
Spoke too soon. Suffice it to say, the scoring system will be
finished soon.
11.22.2002: New page with info about
Tookie's Song.
11.16.2002: Grand Re-Opening! The SBIR website is now open
and ready for business (again). New stuff: ideas
for a new scoring system; Jess
reviews the Comp games. Also added (but long): The Making of Tookie's Song, my
first game.
9.28.2002: Things are going to be real quiet for a while. The
2002 IF Comp is upon us, and there
are something like 50 games to be played and reviewed in six
weeks! We'll be busy!
