Who are you?
I'm Jess Knoch.
I created a website of my very own where I could write about
interactive fiction (IF) and put it so other folks could read it. I
enlisted the help of my sister
Jennifer Maddox to write reviews so I'd have more stuff to read.
I encourage you to tell me what you think
about the site or any of the reviews or articles. Note that we also
review games on request -- so let us know if there's a game you'd
like to see reviewed.
What is IF?
While there's no hard and fast definition,
"interactive fiction" or IF generally refers to computer games that
are text-based. The game presents you with text that describes the
situation and you type in what you'd like to do. See also:
the wonderful
graphic IFaq,
a long and very
thorough FAQ, Suzanne Briton's
What is IF?, and my
own Getting Started Guide on playing IF for the computer literate.
What is this website for?
Mostly my own personal entertainment. I use it to
keep all of my IF reviews available for perusal. I also have pages
on competitions I've hosted, games I've written, and
articles about
IF by myself or others.
How can I find stuff on this website?
Most pages have a navigation bar on the left-hand
side with the different sections of the IF portion of
StrangeBreezes.com. You can also use the "breadcrumb trail"
(with the "
"s)at the
top of every page to find the IF home page or subsection home page,
and go from there. If you're looking for something in particular,
you can use the search box at the top right of every page, powered
by Google. Finally, you can use the Site Map to see at a glance
what's on the website.
What else ya got?
The main repository for all IF games and programs is
http://www.ifarchive.org and
its mirrors, though Baf's Guide to
the IF Archive is more user-friendly (think IMDB of IF). Lots of other people have IF pages on their own
websites. I try to maintain a good Links page; if you'd like your
site added, let me know. Roger Firth's
Parsifal is the ultimate index of IF-related websites.
