Three Amigos
Reviewed by Jess K
Ah, the Three Amigos.  "What can I say about such men?"  I have seen this movie over 200 times.  I no longer count.  At one point I could quote without error about forty minutes of the movie.  Well, it IS a very quotable movie.

Anyhow, on with the review.  This is not a "good" movie by any means.  In fact, there are many who don't even consider it funny.  The humor lies mainly in the personalities of the three main characters, played by Chevy Chase, Steve Martin, and Martin Short.  If you like any of these actors or their previous movies (or, heck, old SNL), then you would probably like the Three Amigos.  Alternately, if you are the type of person who liked Monty Python's "Holy Grail" more for its sheer quotability (insert favorite Holy Grail quote here) than actually having to sit through the thing, then I have a movie for you, too.

The premise is simple.  A Mexican village representative, thinking that the motion picture she sees is reality, invites three actors to battle the town's oppressor (the infamous El Guapo).  The actors consider this a chance to jumpstart their failing entertainment careers, and come to Mexico.  Comedy ensues as the misunderstanding is perpetuated, then tragedy ensues once the Three Amigos reveal themselves to El Guapo.  However, the Amigos prove themselves at the end by leading the villagers against El Guapo and his army.

The movie does take an interesting sidestep into the true fantastic, with a magic chant, a singing bush (literally), talking animals, and an invisible man (he makes a very brief, uh, non-appearance).  However, we quickly recover from this nonsense and get back to the work of defeating the bad guys.

The whole movie is filled with sight gags, one-liners, spoofs, and dumb stuff.  If you didn't think it was funny the first time you saw it, just give it another 99 chances and believe me, it will grow on you.  Long live the Amigos!
