The first time I heard John Mayer I could have sworn that it was Dave Matthews on the radio. The song was "No Such Thing". My kids told me who it was of course, so I searched for his tunes online. I find that his music is mostly acoustic in sound and that the topics are not bad either. Quickly my favorites became the tunes "Love Song For No One" and "Neon". The guitar work on all of the songs is first rate, and the vocals are excellent. His smooth baritone reminds me of Harry Connick Jr., but with more of a tenor tint to it. (If that makes any sense at all to you.) I like the way the songs he has written are broad in scope. I find that most artists who write songs that are too specific just don't appeal to me. While writers like this who have songs that can be easily taken in many ways allow me to add my own interpretation of the lyrics that pertains to me and thus makes a "connection" with me. At any rate this is a good young artist and he's sure to be on the charts with further songs! Carl K |
